Privacy Policy
Dornio ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. What Dornio does not collect
Dornio is an offline, on-device application. We do not collect, transmit or store:
- Your voice recordings or audio data
- The text you dictate or type while using dictation or on-device AI features
- Your dictionary entries, shortcuts, or AI prompts
- The contents of any file, email, message, or document you dictate into
All speech recognition, AI text correction, and personalisation features run entirely on your device using locally downloaded models. No data leaves your device for these functions.
2. Anonymous usage analytics
Dornio sends anonymous, aggregate usage events to help us improve the app. We collect:
- App lifecycle events (e.g. "recording started", "model downloaded")
- A randomly generated installation identifier (not tied to your name, email, or account by us)
- App version and Android version
- Country (derived server-side from your IP address at the time of each request — not GPS, and not your precise location; your IP address itself is not stored)
- Device make, model, Android SDK version, and total device RAM — sent once per app version, so we can see which devices need attention
- Limited install attribution labels when Google Play provides them, such as campaign, source, medium, and which website button was clicked
- On-device AI/speech performance metrics: which AI and speech model is active, hardware acceleration outcome, memory-bandwidth tier, and speed measurements (tokens/second, transcription real-time factor, response latency, thread count) — these describe how fast your device ran a model, never what you said or typed
We do not collect voice data, transcribed text, or any content you produce within the app via analytics.
If you sign in to a Dornio account, your app installation is also linked to that account (see Section 4) so we can manage your subscription — at that point your installation identifier is no longer fully anonymous to us, though it is still never shared with third parties beyond what's described in Section 8.
This anonymous usage data is retained on our servers for a limited period to help us improve the app. You can request deletion at any time — see Contact below.
3. Feedback you choose to send
If you send feedback, a support request, or a problem report from inside Dornio, we receive the message you wrote and basic app/device details needed to understand the issue. If you ask us to reply, we may also receive your email address. Feedback is used only for support and product improvement, is kept for up to one year, and is not used to collect your dictation, voice recordings, documents, or AI prompts.
4. Account
An account is optional: dictation, the free tier and Pro features all work without one. If you choose to create an account — during setup, from Settings, or before a purchase — you can sign in with Google or register with your name, email address and a password. When you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us. Accounts are managed by Firebase Authentication (Google). We collect and store on our servers:
- Your name and email address
- An account identifier for your Dornio account (and, if you sign in with Google, your Google account identifier)
- An installation identifier for your app instance
Your password is never sent to or stored on our servers: it is handled entirely by Firebase Authentication, and we have no way to read it.
We use this information to identify your account and manage your access to the app.
Marketing emails. When you create an account we ask, in a separate checkbox that is never ticked in advance, whether you want to receive news and tips about Dornio by email. We only send those emails if you tick it. Your answer, and the date you gave it, are stored with your account. Ticking the box is not a condition of creating an account, buying Pro, or using any feature. You can withdraw your consent at any time — turn off "News and tips by email" in the app under Settings → Account, use the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or write to privacy@dornio.app — and it takes effect for all future emails. Withdrawing consent does not affect emails required to operate your account, such as email verification and password resets.
5. Subscription and billing
Dornio subscriptions are processed entirely by Google Play. We do not handle or store your payment card details. Your subscription status is verified locally through the Google Play Billing API. We store a record of your subscription status changes (e.g. activated, canceled) and the product purchased, linked to your account, so we can confirm entitlement to Pro features.
6. Permissions we request
- Microphone — required to capture your voice for dictation. Audio is processed locally and is never sent to our servers.
- Accessibility service — required to insert text into other apps and detect the focused text field. We do not read, log, or transmit any screen content or keystrokes.
- Display over other apps — required to show the floating mic button on top of other applications.
- Post notifications — used to alert you when the floating mic needs to be reopened, and for other app-status messages (Android 13+).
7. Data retention
Dictation-related data (dictionary, shortcuts, AI prompts, settings) is stored locally on your device, in the app's private storage area. Uninstalling Dornio removes all locally stored data.
Account data (name, email, and related identifiers) is stored on our servers for as long as your account is active. If you want your account data deleted, you can request this at any time — see Contact below.
8. Third-party services
- Google Play Billing — manages subscription payments. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Authentication (Google) — manages account creation, sign-in (Google or email and password), password resets and account deletion. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics (Google) — receives crash reports and an installation identifier when the app crashes, to help us fix bugs. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- On-device speech recognition — runs entirely locally on your device. No data is sent to any third party.
9. Your rights
How to delete your Dornio account and data:
- In the app, go to Settings → Delete account. This deletes your account immediately — your name, email, and Google account identifier are permanently removed from our servers right away, no waiting period. See below for what happens to your installation identifier.
- If you can't access the app (e.g. lost device), email privacy@dornio.app with the subject "Delete my account", from the email address linked to your account, and we'll delete it for you within 30 days.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. If you have an active subscription, cancel it separately through Google Play, or you will keep being charged.
What is deleted immediately: your name, email address, Google account identifier, subscription history, and your subscription records are permanently removed from our servers, and your installation stops appearing in any usage profile. Locally stored dictation data (dictionary, shortcuts, AI prompts, settings) is removed automatically when you uninstall the app.
What is retained: a small anonymous record of the deletion itself — whether the account was a paying subscriber, which plan, how old the account was, and country — with no name, email, or identifier of any kind, so we can understand deletion patterns and improve the app; this record can never be traced back to you. Feedback you previously chose to send may be kept only after removing account, email, contact and installation identifiers, so it can still help us understand product problems without identifying you. Separately, we keep your installation identifier on an internal exclusion list indefinitely, purely so it can never be used to recreate a usage profile if the app sends any further anonymous events after deletion (e.g. before you uninstall). Raw anonymous usage events already recorded for your installation (see Section 2) are not individually deleted — they age out automatically under our normal raw-event retention window, and aggregated anonymous summaries may remain so we can understand overall product usage without identifying you. From the moment of deletion onward, your installation is excluded from reporting and analysis.
Separately, general anonymous usage analytics events (see Section 2) are retained for a limited period and then deleted automatically; you can request earlier deletion by email at any time.
Where applicable (e.g. for users in the EEA, UK, or California), you also have the right to:
- Access or correct your account data (name, email, and related identifiers)
- Request deletion of the anonymous analytics data associated with your device at any time, by email
- Withdraw any consent previously given
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@dornio.app.
10. Children's privacy
Dornio is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
12. Contact
